It’s human nature not to help make a difference in the world until it affects you personally. But there isn’t a single one of us that is immune to cancer. If it isn’t our self that has to face it, it is someone we love. There is a lot we can do to make a difference for the future. If you can help financially, give to organizations. If you have time on your hands, volunteer. Organizations need volunteers, hospitals and nursing homes have patients who have no one at their side to read to them or just sit and visit. There are neighbors that are all alone and would appreciate someone taking them to appointments, therapy, pharmacies, or do grocery shopping for them. It just may be you some day that needs a stranger to put their hand out to you. We don’t know what the future holds for us. Don’t just think about it, put your best foot forward and give from your heart in whatever capacity you can do the most. Compassion and love of another is the greatest gifts you can give. If I was diagnosed with cancer, I would go visit the cancer ward for children. If you want to see and meet some of the bravest patients, talk to a child with cancer. They can give you more perspective than anyone can. They may not be able to define the word hope but they live it. Adults are so used to having control over their lives that they can learn a lot from children. They put their lives in the hands of those who have been trained to save them. They believe wholeheartedly that whatever is in store for them will work out, even if it means death. Children find a way to vent what is going on within themselves. You might find them drawing, writing a poem, or writing and singing a song about the way they feel. Adults try to hold it in until they have made themselves half crazy with fear of the unknown. I have a friend that was diagnosed with esophageal cancer and given a 15 per cent chance of living. He went into surgery thinking he would die on the table. Today he is 100 per cent cancer free. The Dr’s…all of them…were wrong. What if he had decided a 15 per cent chance wasn’t worth fighting for? He would be dead today. He would have just let the cancer eat him up day by day. Don’t get me wrong…it hasn’t been an easy road. In the beginning he was so depressed no one could say anything to make a difference. Then he was angry. That anger is what saved his life. He was angry enough to fight. He is one of my best friends and my life would have been so empty without him. I’m not just grateful, I am in awe of God. My friend could not have lived without Gods help. I hope you will take the time to check out some of the links we have provided for you. Whether you are looking for information, hope, understanding, or stories of those who have beat cancer, please take the time…you won’t be sorry.
