WHY?

Cancer is the second leading cause of death in America, exceeded only by heart disease.  Every year, more than 1 MILLION people are diagnosed with cancer.  Many never get to enjoy their “golden years” (retirement they work all their lives in the hopes of)…the American dream.

The most common cancers involve the epithelial tissues (linings of the airways, gastrointestinal and urinary systems), and the risk of these increases rapidly with age, as does the risk of cancer as a whole.  Cancer develops when a sequence of mutations occurs in critical genes in ONE CELL of the body, as a result of exposure to carcinogens, such as tobacco, infectious organisms, and chemicals, and internal factors such as inherited mutations, hormones, and immune conditions.  Cumulative exposure to such agents increases with time, so that the probability of cancer increases as we age.

   Knowledge is power!!!

Why?  We started this website in the hopes of empowering cancer victims and their families.  We’ve all known someone who has or had cancer.  We’ve seen how it affected everyone in the family.  We’ve experienced a loved one being diagnosed with cancer and all the steps along the way to either a 100 per cent cancer free diagnosis or death.  We know the dreaded fear the word cancer causes.  This is our way of offering information, hope, and understanding.  Whether you are the patient, family member or friend, we have something for you.

Get smart!!!  If you have questions, search until you find the answers.  Don’t just take anyone’s advice on what you should do.  Not ours, and not just one source from any of the websites we list.  Check out as many as necessary until you feel comfortable with the decision you made.  Put everything you have into the fight against your cancer.  Don’t gie up even if the diagnosis seems futile.  Many are given a 15 per cent chance of living and still beat.

Prevention can be the key to a healthy life.  See your Dr. regularly and tell him you want preventative tests.  Be responsible.  Take the steps necessary to ensure a better life and a longer life.  How many times have you heard proper nutrition and exercise are the keys to health.  Did you listen?  Are you taking the responsibility for your future?  No one can do these things for you.  You have to get up and do it for yourself.    Help your family do the same.  Involve friends and neighbors too.  Start an exercise class if you don’t want to do it alone.

Every day there are new ways to fight cancer.  Every day possibilities increase.

There are some very simple ways to help yourself too.  Wear a hat, sunscreen or both when you are outside.  Wash vegetables and fruits before eating them.  Don’t use aerosol.

If you’re going to rake and burn leaves, protect your lungs by wearing a mask.  There are molds that grow in your home that do not turn black but they are still there.  Clean often and clean thoroughly.  If your vacuum cleaner blows dust, have it repaired.  Clean the ducts in your home periodically so they aren’t blowing dust.  Cleaning the filters are important too.  All of these are common sense practices.  Think about it!  What can you do to make better health for you and your family.
